Just because you were issued a summons for violating the New Jersey Traffic Code – Title 39, doesn’t mean you are guilty of the offense as charged. Depending on the facts and circumstances of your particular case you may be able to raise certain legal defenses and/or negotiate a favorable plea to downgrade the original offense. There are a number of options available to you that you should consider before simply pleading guilty to the offense as charged and accepting the sentence imposed by the Court. You should be aware that pleading guilty will not only result in fines for the offense as charged, you may also face moving violation points assessed by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, potential imposition of State surcharges, a suspension of your driving privileges, and a potential increase in your automobile insurance policy premiums even if you do not have a New Jersey drivers’ license or reside in the State.
As you can see a simple traffic violation could have a serious impact on you depending on your particular situation. You should make every effort and take the steps necessary to avoid potential problems before attending Court or mailing in the fine. Call me today and I will try to answer any questions you may have regarding your particular offense and the potential impact it may have on you.
